Synergia Northwest’s Music Lessons Matter happens May 18 at 8 p.m. It’s guaranteed to be an evening filled with great bands and several unique, memorable performances all in support of a good cause. Seeing an orchestra with Walking Papers and Mike McCready, a Rolling Stones tribute, Shawn Smith, a drum line, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer, and several of Seattle’s finest musicians all in the same place in one night definitely gives you plenty of musical bang for your buck. So be sure to make plans to head out to the Moore Saturday night to check out Music Lessons Matter. And as part of the night’s performances there will be a tribute to the Rolling Stones. So you’ll be able to rock out and support a very good cause while you’re at it.Īlso, there are plenty of other artists scheduled to perform, including The Voice contestant Mycle Wastmanan, Santana drummer Michael Shrieve’s Spellbinder, 7 Year Bitch’s Selene Vigil-Wilk , Blues Traveler’s Brendan Hill, Tess Henley, the Garfield High School drum line and guitarist Caspian Coberly. ![]() Well, aside from the opportunity to watch McCready and Walking Papers rock with an orchestra, Music Lessons Matter is a benefit for free after-school music programs for elementary school students in the Central District. What could possibly make this a the event better? Oh, and it’s also worth noting that Mike McCready, who plays guitar on several Walking Papers tracks, will be joining the band for a few songs. Adding to the awesome is the news that Walking Papers, who are fresh off a successful European tour, will be backed by a full orchestra. The show, which happens Saturday at the Moore Theatre, features multiple Guerrilla Candy favorites in Walking Papers, Shawn Smith and Justin Davis from Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs. for an evening of unique performances and this year’s event, Music Lessons Matter, is something you won’t want to miss. Synergia Northwest creates events that bring together musicians of various skill levels - classical, contemporary, professional, student, etc. Standout Red Envelopes traces the path from fetus to juvenile delinquent with buzz saw guitars, swinging horns, and punkish chorus slogan the blood is on your hands. When Angell soulfully croons, I was born with bloodshot eyes and a broken heart, it could just as easily be a young man in Verona as Seattle. A pair of star-crossed lovers trade life-affirming verses atop ember-like guitar and Martins soft, tribal drumming on the hushed Leave Me in the Dark. Singer-guitarist Angells narratives (spun from strung-together lyrical clichés) are at the heart of Walking Papers, with keyboardist Benjamin Anderson, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Barrett Martin supplying the appropriate compliment to the tale. This unlikely dynamic makes Walking Papers a pink slip youll actually be happy to get. Then again, very little about the self-titled debut from Seattles Walking Papers can be filed under expected. Its a record that largely eschews typical hard rock fare, opting instead for a blues rock that slinks and wafts as much as it crunches and blusters. Odd that a band catching positive ink as a hard rock super group would open the first entry in their discography with a relative whisper. ![]() Tonight the stars will burn out, softly promises Jeff Angell on the subdued, slow-burning ∺lready Dead. ![]()
